OUR APPROACH
OUR APPROACH
-
Conducting an annual carbon audit helps us monitor and mitigate our environmental impact. We strive to minimise our carbon footprint, particularly by reducing nitrogen fertiliser usage. Solar panels atop our packhouse cold store and efficient water management systems exemplify our commitment to renewable energy and resource conservation.
Innovative pest management strategies further demonstrate our dedication to sustainable farming. Beneficial insects like parasitic wasps and predatory mites help control aphids, spider mites, and vine weevil populations, reducing our reliance on pesticides.
Our strawberries, cultivated using coir instead of peat, exemplify our focus on quality and sustainability. Despite challenges such as mildew, we embrace innovative solutions like UV light trials to ensure healthy yields while minimising environmental impact.
-
As a member of the Red Tractor Assurance Scheme, we prioritise food safety and sustainability in all our endeavours.
We are Scottish Quality Crops certified growers of oilseed rape, wheat and barley. The assurance scheme works with farmers ‘to firmly place Scotland's combinable crops at the premium end of the UK and European markets.’
We are also audited annually by Sedex, compliant with their strict approach to fair work practice.
-
We generate much of our own electricity through around 100kWh of solar panels on our packhouse and cold stores.
We recycle many of our byproducts. For example, we spread old coir substrate - used in our strawberry operation - onto the cereal and potato land, benefitting the soil.
We continue to invest in systems to allow us to clean and reuse irrigation water. We use trickle irrigation on our soft fruit crops which ensures water is not wasted.
We are proud to be a LEAF Marque certified farm. “LEAF Marque is an environmental assurance system recognising more sustainably farmed products and is based on the sustainable farming principles of Integrated Farm Management (IFM).”

Our farm shop provides a fun and delicious day out over the summer months. Visit our shop website: East Scryne Fruit Farm Shop.
In 2024 we supported ‘Transition Dundee’ in their ‘Gleaning Project’. We were thrilled to donate surplus blueberries from our harvest to support their efforts in reducing food waste and providing fresh produce to local communities. By taking part in this project, we’re contributing to a more sustainable and compassionate food system right here in Tayside.
